Dear Friends and Neighbors,
For years, Westchester's Invest in Kids initiative has supported invaluable development programs for young people across the county's cities. These programs foster life and leadership skills; provide academic support; offer career skills and job readiness guidance; and deliver fitness and nutrition training, among other activities, for hundreds of at-risk young people in Westchester every year.
At our July 15th meeting, the Board of Legislators unanimously approved agreements with the cities of New Rochelle, Mount Vernon, Peekskill and White Plains for seven popular Invest in Kids programs offered this year through Youth Bureaus in those cities.
In all, the county will provide $296,000 to support these seven programs in 2019, with an additional $159,000 in matching funds coming from sponsoring agencies.
In White Plains, the Board approved $127,500 to fund three programs -- Clubman Higher Aims, Healthy & Fit for Life and Step Up! The Clubmen Higher Aims is an afterschool program for young African-American and Latino men, providing educational and social support, like tutoring and mentoring, as well as cultural and leadership experiences. The Healthy & Fit for Life program helps young people from the ages of 6 to 21 incorporate healthy behavior and wellness into their daily lives. Step Up! is a youth development program for young men ages 14-21, providing help with resume and college essay writing, interview skills, job training and college preparation.
I am very pleased that the County is continuing to support these innovative youth programs. Helping young people develop their potential and keeping them involved in healthy, meaningful activities is critical at this special stage of their lives.

Sincerely,
