Westchester Insider: Westchester County: TSA PreCheck® Enrollment Coming to Westchester County Airport.

TSA PreCheck® Enrollment Coming to Westchester County Airport (HPN)

For Limited Time This March.

Save Time and Stress the Next Time You’re Flying by getting TSA PreCheck® Enroll from March 27-31 at Local White Plains Airport.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY – TSA PreCheck® is the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) expedited security screening program for airline passengers who are considered low-risk and who qualify for the program. From Monday, March 27 through Friday, March 31, Westchester County Airport (HPN) will be working with the TSA in collaboration with IDEMIA to offer travelers the opportunity to enroll in the TSA PreCheck® program here in Westchester. This special five-day enrollment period will be available daily at Westchester County Airport at 240 Airport Road in White Plains from 9 AM–Noon and 1-5 PM in the terminal arrivals area near the baggage claim carousel.

Westchester County Executive George Latimer said: “Bringing the PreCheck enrollment process up here to local residents is a benefit to all Westchester travelers who don’t have the time or extra resources to go down to JFK and back just to go through the enrollment process. I encourage all residents to consider taking advantage of this great limited-time opportunity to save time and stress.”

The TSA PreCheck® program helps travelers save time through a smarter travel experience that expedites the checkpoint screening process and cuts down on the stress of travel. Those enrolled do not need to remove their shoes, laptops, 3-1-1 liquids, belts and light jackets when going through designated TSA PreCheck® security lanes. In January 2023, 92% of the nation’s TSA PreCheck® passengers waited less than five minutes waiting to be screened.

Westchester County Airport Manager April Gasparri said: “Westchester County Airport is excited to work with the TSA to expand enrollment of its TSA PreCheck program right here in Westchester. This is a win for local travelers and community members whether they fly through White Plains or elsewhere.”

Enrollment Process

The enrollment process is quick, convenient and even faster when the application is completed online beforehand. The in-person enrollment requires that applicants provide proof of identity, proof of citizenship, fingerprints and a photo. IDEMIA offers TSA PreCheck® enrollment for $78 and if approved, travelers get a five-year membership with the program.

Following the in-person enrollment appointment, most applicants receive their Known Traveler Number (KTN) in about three to five days. The KTN number must be added to flight reservations to enjoy TSA PreCheck® benefits.

TSA PreCheck® was created in December 2011 as a way to provide low-risk travelers with a smoother experience through airport security. It’s a great option for travelers looking to save time. Enrolled members do not need to remove shoes, laptops, 3-1-1 liquids, belts, or light jackets. They also access TSA PreCheck® dedicated screening lanes at over 200 participating U.S. airports nationwide.

For more information or to apply online and schedule a 10-minute in-person enrollment appointment at Westchester County Airport from March 27 to March 31 visit: www.tsa.gov/precheck.

While scheduling an advanced appointment is not required to enroll in-person, it is highly suggested to save time and ensure the best results.

Westchester Insider: Westchester County District Attorney: THREE MEN INDICTED FOR FATAL SHOOTING IN PEEKSKILL.

THREE MEN INDICTED FOR FATAL SHOOTING IN PEEKSKILL.

WHITE PLAINS, NY – Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah announced that three men were arraigned on an indictment charging them in connection with the January 2023 murder of Ricky Brickhouse in Peekskill.

A Westchester County Grand Jury indicted Arnold Fernandez, 19, of Peekskill, for Murder in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, both felonies, and Errick Lowe, 26, of Cortlandt Manor, and Omar Williams, 20, of Peekskill, for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. The defendants were arraigned in Westchester County Court on February 23, 2023. Fernandez and Williams were remanded and bail was set for Lowe.

On January 29, 2023, at approximately 4:16 p.m., Fernandez allegedly fired three shots at the 35-year-old victim, striking him once, on Spring Street in Peekskill. The defendants are also charged with possessing a loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol. The gun is believed to be the murder weapon.

The victim was transported to New York Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital in Peekskill and then Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where he died.

The Peekskill Police Department arrested the defendants following a pursuit on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Greenburgh. The Westchester County Department of Public Safety, the Westchester County Department of Public Safety’s Real Time Crime Center, the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office High Technology Crime Squad, and the Westchester County Department of Laboratories and Research assisted with the investigation.

The case is before Judge George Fufidio in Westchester County Court, and is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Celia Curtis of the Trials and Investigations Division.

The charges against the defendants are merely an accusation, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Westchester Insider: Westchester County: PHOTO/VIDEO: SECTION ONE BASKETBALL RETURNS TO THE WESTCHESTER COUNTY CENTER.

SECTION ONE BASKETBALL RETURNS TO THE WESTCHESTER COUNTY CENTER.

(White Plains, NY) – It’s a full circle moment for the Westchester County Center as Section One Basketball, the last event held there in 2020, returns, Monday, February 27, through Sunday, March 5. Tickets will be available at the door and are $8 for those ages five and older; free for those under the age of five. County Executive George Latimer and guests hosted a press conference earlier today to officially welcome back Section One.

The Westchester County Center is affectionately known as the, “Mecca of High School Basketball,” so it is only appropriate that its first event since closing to operate as a medical facility for COVID-19 is the return of Section One Basketball.

Westchester County Executive George Latimer said, “As a kid growing up on the South Side of Mount Vernon, I understand the importance of Section One Championship Basketball in this County. That importance extends to this tournament being held at the Westchester County Center, which has been a major landmark in this County for generations – and for Section One Basketball players that facility’s elevated status is even greater. This tournament was the last event hosted at this facility before COVID-19 hit and now it will be first event hosted upon its re-opening. With Section One Basketball returning to the County Center, this iconic tournament is in its rightful home and I look forward to welcoming these exceptional schools, student-athletes and families back.”

Westchester County Parks Commissioner Kathy O’Connor said, “There’s nothing like walking into the County Center during a sporting event and seeing the community come together for local sports. The staff has done an incredible job restoring the facility to welcome back Section One!”

Southern Westchester BOCES Center for Interscholastic Athletics Executive Director of Section One Todd Santabarbara said: “As the last sporting event to be played in the County Center in March of 2020, how fitting it is for Section One to be a part of re-opening its doors, Our Basketball Sport Chairs, the Championship Committee and the Executive Committee remain focused on offering premier championship events. Being able to renew our partnership with Westchester County reinforces the value we place on collaboration in order to build the best possible championship experience for the student-athletes and school communities in Section One.”

When the County Center was transformed into a medical facility, the building’s infrastructure, which includes the basketball court, was completely rearranged as hospital rooms and offices were built to accommodate the public.

In order to get the County Center back up and running, the main wood floor was replaced, as well as carpets in meeting rooms A through D, Atrium flooring was replaced and additional repairs were made throughout the building as well as its parking lots.

Westchester Insider: Westchester County: WESTCHESTER COUNTY HONORS 'TRAILBLAZERS' AS PART OF BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATION.

COUNTY EXECUTIVE GEORGE LATIMER HONORS ‘TRAILBLAZERS’
AS PART OF BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATION.

Annual event to recognize individuals who have made contributions to African American

history and culture in Westchester County.

https://youtu.be/W1A3aNPB7bA

(Rye, NY) – Westchester County Executive George Latimer and Deputy County Executive Ken Jenkins honored two remarkable African American citizens for their professional accomplishments and community efforts at the 2023 Trailblazers Awards Ceremony. “Trailblazers: Preserving our Legacy” was hosted virtually from the Jay Heritage Estate in Rye as part of the County’s celebration of Black History Month. The awards recognize individuals who have made great contributions to African American history and culture throughout Westchester County.

Latimer said: “February is known as Black History Month, and every year we pause to reflect on the impactful stories of those African Americans who helped shape our history in Westchester County, and all over the world. We are fortunate that here in Westchester, there are many opportunities to attend events, talks and exhibits to help us remember the Black Americans who were change-makers long before our time. Tonight, help us by honoring two outstanding individuals who have stood out above the rest for their public service, and immense contributions to the mosaic that is Westchester County.”

Jenkins said: “The Trailblazers Awards Ceremony was created more than 20 years ago as way to honor outstanding individuals in the name of other heroic predecessors, so as not to forget their struggle and sacrifice. Tonight’s honorees have had extraordinarily successful careers along two very different paths, but they both made it a point to help guide, mentor, inspire and give back to others who followed in their footsteps. Let us be inspired by their efforts, and use it as a platform for change in Westchester County and beyond.”

Chair of the African American Advisory Board Barbara L. Edwards, Esq. said: “African Americans have contributed to every aspect of American life, often in the face of incredible prejudice and hardship. Our ancestor’s history of courage, perseverance, faith and resolve motivates us to continue pursuing equality and a more promising future. This year, we honor two extraordinary Westchester residents who have strengthened and enriched our cultural heritage by sharing their time, talent and treasure. We commend our Trailblazers and pledge to align our efforts to advance justice for all.”
