During the Weekly Westchester Briefing:

·         North Castle Supervisor Joseph Rende discussed matters concerning North Castle.

·         County Department of Environmental Facilities First Deputy Commissioner Louis Vetrone discussed amendments to the Source Separation Law – the County’s recycling law. The new amendments require nonresidential waste generators (businesses, schools, institutions, etc.) with areas open to the public and visitors to provide separate disposal receptacles for garbage and recyclables. Under the new law, if an establishment offers a garbage receptacle in an area open to the public, it must also offer a recycling receptacle in close proximity. The impetus behind this law is to make recycling easy and convenient for County’s residents and visitors.

·         Westchester County Executive George Latimer highlighted the Westchester County Archives unit.  Archives is housed in the Department of Information Technology and serves as the central repository for the historical public records of Westchester County. These governmental records date from 1680 to the present and provide not only documentation of the history of county government, but also the growth of Westchester from an agrarian society through the industrial age to today’s commuter and service economy.

·         County Finance Commissioner Karin Hablow discussed her department recently receiving the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting for their 2022 Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR). The PAFR is designed to be a less comprehensive, easier to understand, and visually appealing summary of our Annual Comprehensive Financial Report. Fiscal year 2022 was the first year ever for the County producing a PAFR.

·         Latimer discussed upcoming County School Board Elections.
