WESTCHESTER COUNTY MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE SET FOR MAY 24.
Ceremony to be held at 11 a.m. at Lasdon Park; Veterans Museum to Re-Open, Veterans Advisory Council to Be Created.
(White Plains, NY) -- Westchester County Executive George Latimer and Veterans Service Agency Director Ron Tocci will host the County's annual Memorial Day Ceremony at Lasdon Park, Arboretum & Veterans Memorial in Katonah on Friday, May 24 at 11 a.m.
The occasion will be marked by the re-opening of the Westchester County Veteran's Museum with a new, special exhibit, "The American Experience During World War II," and the signing of an Executive Order creating a new County Veterans’ Advisory Council.
The Council will work in coordination with the Veterans' Service Agency to enhance the County's continuing support for veterans and help the County connect with a new and diverse generation of veterans.
Exhibit panels at the museum will summarize major World War II battles and highlight stories of local heroes fighting overseas who called Westchester County “home” during the war years. Displays of historic WWII uniforms and military artifacts illustrate the panels.
WWII also impacted the American Experience in the home front. Panels and artifacts also will detail the impact of the war at home, from the need to buy war bonds to civil defense preparations and even to events at Lasdon before it was a park.
