UNVIELING OF WESTCHESTER COUNTY’S FIRST FULL CRICKET PITCH AT CROTON POINT PARK.
(Croton-on-Hudson, NY) – Westchester County residents can add cricket to their list of activities this summer as Westchester County’s first full cricket pitch is set to open at Croton Point Park in Croton-on-Hudson.
Wednesday, May 24
2 p.m.
Croton Point Park
1A Croton Point Avenue
Croton-on-Hudson, New York
Ambassadors of the sport of cricket within Westchester County were instrumental in developing the layout of the new pitch. Westchester County Parks identified Croton Point Park as the prime location as its underutilized ballfield would be able to seamlessly transition into a cricket pitch. The conversion consisted of installing cement slabs to the existing field and determining the perfect padded turf. Several samples of turf were tested to pinpoint which gave the best bounce to the ball.
Additional guidance by the team of ambassadors was provided to determine the positioning of the wicket.
Westchester County Executive George Latimer said, “Westchester County Parks has so much to offer and we are continuing to build on the greatness we already have with new features, like the cricket pitch. I’m thrilled that we are bringing Westchester County’s first full cricket pitch to Croton Point Park as visitors will have the opportunity to play cricket and explore one of the Westchester County Parks system’s gems.”
Commissioner of the Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation, Kathy O’Connor said, “I’m elated to add cricket to the list of sports available to play at our parks. I encourage residents to try something new this summer and play cricket at Croton Point Park!”
The cricket pitch will be available to rent in one-hour to two-hour blocks and can be rented back-to-back for the day. Call the Westchester County Parks permit office at (914) 231-4575 to reserve and for fees.
