2023 WESTCHESTER COUNTY ENVIROTHON TO BE HELD AT SAL J. PREZIOSO MOUNTAIN LAKES PARK.

(North Salem, NY) – Westchester County High School students will have the chance to compete in the 2023 Westchester County Envirothon at Sal J. Prezioso Mountain Lakes Park in North Salem, Friday, May 12. Registration is open through Saturday, April 25, 2023.

The Envirothon is open to all public and private high schools in the county and each competing high school may enter up to two teams consisting of five students plus up to two alternates and an adult advisor. The winner will move on to the New York State Envirothon scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, May 24 and 25, at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York.

Westchester County Executive George Latimer said, “I’m excited to welcome back the future Environmental Scientists for another Envirothon at Mountain Lakes Park in North Salem for a friendly competition putting their skills to the test!”

Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation Commissioner Kathy O’Connor said, “Last year was the first year we hosted the Envirothon and had 17 teams from across the county participate. It was a great day and I’m looking forward to this year’s competition.”

This event is an opportunity for students to test their soil, aquatic ecology, land use, forestry, wildlife and climate change knowledge against their peers from schools throughout the county. Students will also meet professionals in various environmental fields at the event.

Westchester County Planning Commissioner Norma Drummond said, “After the great success of the 2022 event, we are excited to expand the program in 2023 by including more local and regional environmental organizations as partners. Students will be able to not only test their natural resource skills but also connect with environmental professionals at this exciting event.”

The 2023 Westchester County Envirothon is cosponsored by the Westchester County Soil and Water Conservation District and Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation, with support from the Westchester Parks Foundation, Watershed Agricultural Council and New York Sea Grant.
