Taconic Opera’s 25th Anniversary Season Begins:
Massenet’s Manon, October 22 & 23, 2022 in Yorktown.
Taconic Opera is opening its 2022-23 season with a full production of an operatic gem. After last season’s successful Manon Lescaut by Puccini, they will present Massenet’s French version, Manon, which has a twist on the story line. The production will be fully staged with professional, experienced lead singers and orchestra, and Maestro Jun Nakabayashi looks forward to providing the downbeat. Generous donations have made it possible to upgrade the sets for a visual feast, and it will be sung in French with English supertitles projected above the stage to further elevate the entire experience.
According to General Director, Dan Montez, Manon is a Grand Opera with some of the most famous and beautiful music ever written. While both operas deal with a woman choosing between financial security and true love, it is distinctively different from the Puccini version in that it delves into her impoverished existence as she struggles to win back her true love who has become a priest.
