Westchester Insider: Election Desk 2022 News: Maloney Flip-Flops on Congestion Pricing Tax.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MALONEY FLIP-FLOPS ON CONGESTION PRICING TAX.

NY-17, Sept. 6…Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), has blatantly flip-flopped on the planned Congestion Pricing Tax that will tag New Yorkers with fees as high as $34 per trip for the privilege of driving into Manhattan south of 60th Street, the campaign of Assemblyman and NY-17 congressional candidate Mike Lawler today charged. Mr. Lawler is a chief sponsor of legislation in Albany to repeal the planned tax.

“Sean Patrick Maloney has got to be kidding,” Assemblyman Lawler said. “He has fully supported a Congestion Pricing Tax for the past three years, but now that there's pushback from beleaguered commuters, he’s dishonestly telling news reporters that he’s opposed the tax the whole time. Mr. Maloney hasn’t lifted a finger in Congress to stop Congestion Pricing, while colleagues on both sides of the aisle, including Rep. Nicole Malliotakis of Staten Island and Rep. Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey, have been fighting in the trenches to keep this thing from happening.

“If Mr. Maloney opposed Congestion Pricing, why hasn’t he been on the Malliotakis-Gottheimer bill and why hasn’t he reached out to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg on the issue?,” Mr. Lawler asked. “Mr. Maloney may think he can fool voters, but they can spot his bald-faced lies a mile away.”

Assemblyman Lawler has been one of the leading voices in the state opposing the Congestion Pricing Tax plan. He laid out arguments against the tax in an oped a year ago, long before most people were talking about the tax.
