Dear Neighbors and Friends,
As part of their educational programs: "Exploring Hidden African-American History," the Bird Homestead and Meeting House Conservancy in Rye is sponsoring an archaeological dig in a series of community workshops from July 25 - August 3. The excavation will be conducted by professional archaeologists and will focus on the sites of two former buildings owned by African-American entrepreneur, William Voris, in the mid 19th-century.
The program is supported by a grant from Humanities NY and is free of charge. Participants 14 years old and up are welcome but must commit to the entire eight weekday workshop to ensure the continuity of the dig.
Advance registration is required and space is limited to 12 participants. To sign up, email preservehistory@earthlink.net, or call 914-967-0099.
Sincerely,
