WESTCHESTER COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF SENIOR PROGRAMS AND SERVICES LAUNCHES JOINT PROGRAM
ON GUARDING THE PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL AND FINANCIAL SAFETY OF OLDER ADULTS.
Program to be Presented on June 15 in Recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
(White Plains, NY) – Westchester County Executive George Latimer is pleased to announce that for the third year in a row the County is collaborating with the state and local nonprofit community on a virtual program in Recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
“Guarding Your Physical, Emotional, and Financial Safety: Tools and Real-Life Examples” will be presented on June 15 at 10 a.m. as part of the regularly scheduled webinar series offered by the Senior Law Day Collaborative (www.seniorlawday.info).
The Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services (DSPS) is pleased to be partnering with five other local organizations on this initiative:
· Office of the District Attorney – Westchester County
· State of New York Office of the Attorney General
· Pace Women’s Justice Center
· Westchester County Department of Social Services – Adult Protective Services
· Westchester Library System
Latimer said: “We may be prone to others playing on our emotions or physical limitations, both strangers and people we know well. The last two years have been tough for many of us. In the spirit of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, we are presenting useful tools to help our seniors become more resilient during these challenging times.”
DSPS Commissioner Mae Carpenter said: “Staying safe in all ways is integral to a healthy aging plan and process. We partner often with other government and nonprofit groups on aging issues and am pleased that the collaboration on this program is now in its third year,” says Carpenter.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is held annually on June 15 as an International UN observance, recognizing that abuse of the elderly is an increasing and serious problem as longevity increases.
