A week ago the US Supreme Court draft decision overturning Roe v. Wade was leaked  - and the ground rumbled with the power of an earthquake, and hasn't stopped since. We knew this was coming. It has been in the works since Pres. George W. Bush appointed Justices Roberts and Alito. Our Choice Matters team has been hard at work. This past Sunday, May 8, 2022, Choice Matters President Catherine Lederer-Plaskett joined Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to call for a vote on the Women's Health Protection Act (WHPA) in the US Senate. The WHPA would expand abortion access by removing current barriers and ensuring that state governments could not limit women’s healthcare services. Abortion as well as other forms of reproductive healthcare would be protected. The vote on the WHPA will happen this Wednesday.  Schumer, a lifelong reproductive rights advocate, stated, “Choice should not be up to a handful of right-wing justices. Choice should not be up to a handful of right-wing politicians. It's a women's right. It is a women's right”.   Lederer-Plaskett, speaking alongside the Majority Leader, warned that this is just the beginning. These extremist Supreme Court justices are using the argument that "privacy" is not a constitutional right; and they will use that same argument to overturn the right to contraception, gay marriage, interracial marriage and other privacy decisions. https://choicematters.org/donate-now/
