Every 10 years, following the decennial census, the Board of Legislators meets to consider county legislative district lines.

Why redistricting?

• Westchester's population has grown to more than 1 million – an increase of nearly 6 percent over the last 10 years. (https://data.census.gov/cedsci/profile?g=0500000US36119)
• Population growth has varied from area to area within the County. (https://www.lohud.com/story/news/2021/08/18/gda-2020-census-population-ny-pwes-36119/48479353/)
• The state law defining the permissible deviation in population size between County Legislative districts has changed -- from being within 10% of the mean population size for all districts to being within 5%. (https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/bills/2021/A229)
• As a result, Westchester County's Legislative Districts must be redrawn before the next County Legislative election in 2023 in order for our districts to comply with state law.

Westchester’s Current Legislative Districts

Before we begin our necessary redistricting conversations, the Board is seeking input from the public.

A Remote Public Input Session on County Legislative Redistricting will be held on Wednesday, April 27 at 6 p.m.
