Westchester Insider: Westchester County Legislator Erika Pierce 2nd District: District 2 Update: March 18, 2022.

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

This week I attended NYSAC, New York State’s annual legislative conference. This event features informational workshops and opportunities to share issues and solutions with other legislators. I attended discussions featuring important issues including: the crisis in Emergency Medical Services, energy use and procurement, the environment, improving veterans services and childcare. I am happy to share that County Executive Latimer received the Public Service Award for his leadership during the pandemic at the conference.

Last Thursday, I held a 911 Diversion Town Hall in collaboration with Allie Whalen, Captain of Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps. This Town Hall featured Commissioner Michael Orth and Mark Guiliano from the Westchester County Department of Community Mental Health, along with members of our local Mobile Crisis Response Team. Mark Guiliano, one of the creators of Project Alliance, Westchester’s 911 Diversion Program, gave a detailed explanation of the program. Captain Whalen provided questions from her critical boots-on-the-ground perspective, while  local residents shared their concerns. You can view the presentation here.

Lastly, I have spoken with many residents about the increase in our utility bills. As a result, we brought both ConEd and NYSEG in for discussions, and have subsequently prepared complaints to the PSC including utilities' poor communication and problematic billing procedures and programs that led some customers to be more negatively impacted than their neighbors. I am asking residents who experienced these issues to also file a complaint with the PSC.  Please be on the lookout for an email with instructions, or reach out to my office if you need help.

I wish everyone a happy equinox, and as always, you can find more information about things in our district below.

Erika Pierce
Legislator, District Two
