Westchester Insider: Statement from Westchester County Legislator Erika Pierce 2nd District.

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Despite the changeable weather, spring is really on its way. The nights are getting louder and louder with the sound of frog music, and while my kids are grown and gone, I will forever remember their excitement at watching the frogs develop in our backyard pond. It’s also exciting to see the return of our daffodils. Most of the daffodils in our yard have come through Lewisboro’s Golden Roads organization, a true community gem. You can learn more about them, including a map for Lewisboro’s Golden Roads daffodil tour, here. For those beginning to plant, information for Lasdon’s cold frame planting workshop this weekend is below.

Meetings this week have included a sit down with Veterans to discuss the critical work ahead. We discussed a number of important programs and initiatives, including information I brought back from Albany. The County Executive joined us for this important discussion. I also attended a meeting with the Restaurant Alliance of Westchester, where we discussed the stresses with which our restaurants continue to struggle, including staffing issues, COVID concerns, inflation and supply chain difficulties. This group includes Mt. Kisco’s own Leslie Lampert (Ladle of Love). I urge everyone to continue to support the local restaurants that bring so much to our downtowns, and to be understanding with them as they do their part to improve our lives, one sandwich, one ice cream and one cocktail at a time.

A reminder to those in our community who are struggling with heat, Emergency HEAP is still available. Information is available here. And for those who have Con Ed, you can sign up with the Grid Rewards Program to save money on your electricity bill. More information about Grid Rewards can be found here.  And last for this week, a new affordable housing complex, Lewisboro Commons in Goldens Bridge, is accepting applications. The brochure can be found here and the application can be found here. Applications to the Housing Action Council must be received by May 13, 2022.

As always, you will find more about things going on in and around our towns below.

Sincerely,
Erika Pierce
Legislator, District 2
