US Congresswoman Nita Lowey News.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 11, 2019

Lowey Announces more than $14.8 Million in Federal Funds for Westchester County Airport.

U.S. Department of Transportation Grant Will Fund Critical Runway Rehab.

White Plains, NY – Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY17/Rockland-Westchester), Chairwoman of the House Appropriations Committee, today announced the awarding of $14,874,994 in federal funding to repave and improve the safety of the runway at Westchester County Airport.

This funding is in addition to the $4 million announced in May and was awarded through the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). Specifically, the funding will be used to rehabilitate 4,857 feet of Westchester County Airport’s runway, which was last repaved in 1998. These critical updates will include the installation of replacement identifier lights, the reconstruction of the existing taxiway lighting system, and the replacement of supplemental wind cones and precision approach path indicators.

“These two recent federal grants for Westchester County Airport totaling almost $20 million help relieve a fiscal burden on the county and have a real impact on the residents of the Lower Hudson Valley,” said Congresswoman Lowey. “As Chairwoman of the House Appropriations Committee, I will continue working to protect and improve critical transportation infrastructure across our country and in the Lower Hudson Valley to ensure safety and grow our economy.”

“I am thankful to US Congresswoman Nita Lowey for securing 14.8 million dollars in FAA money to repave the runway at the Westchester County Airport,” said County Executive George Latimer. “The repaving of the runway is needed as four thousand plus feet of runway continues to age. Our priority is safety and making sure that the airport facilities are always in top working order. This work will also bring many good paying jobs to Westchester. Again, thank you to Congresswoman Lowey for recognizing the importance of this project.”
