WESTCHESTER COUNTY PARKS RECEIVES AN AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE.
(White Plains, N.Y.) Westchester County Executive George Latimer announced that Westchester County Parks’ Inclusive Playground at Saxon Woods Park in White Plains last month received the prestigious Austin Welch Pierre Award from the Westchester Recreation and Parks Society, Inc. The award acclaims and recognizes not only those in recreation, parks conservation and allied professions, but also those who interpret the public in general excellence of effort in the field of recreations and parks.
“The inclusive playground is a wonderful amenity to Saxon Woods, and it became extremely popular right after it opened to the public in May of 2018,” said Latimer. “I congratulate our Parks Department staff for developing and creating this unique play space.”
The brightly colored orange, red and green open space has an area for children ages 2 to 5 and an inclusive playground for ages 5 to 12, while its swing set accommodates all age levels and abilities. The play space takes up three-quarters of an acre in the 700-acre park.
To earn the Pierre Award, the individual or organization nominated must have completed in the year before to the selection, a piece of outstanding creative work; or have demonstrated leadership of excellence having an impact on recreation and parks participation, regionally, nationally and internationally.
The Westchester Recreation and Parks Society, Inc. Austin Welch Pierre Award was given to Westchester County Parks at the Shenorock Shore Club in Rye.
Saxon Woods Park is on Mamaroneck Avenue, just off the Hutchinson River Parkway.
