Background-
Westchester County Executive George Latimer is participating in the Summer Reading Buddies Program. The Program is intended to combat the “summer reading slide” where literacy skills are lost over the summer, the slide can lead to significant gaps in academic achievement in later years. The program matches volunteers with children to read books or work on their summer reading assignments.
The Summer Reading Buddies program is held at the Yonkers Riverfront Library every Tuesday and Wednesday from 10am to 12pm through August 14, and at the Ossining Public Library every Friday morning from 10 am to 12pm through August 9.
The Summer Reading Buddies program is run by JCY-Westchester Community Partners which has partnered with the Yonkers Riverfront Library, the Yonkers Public Schools, the Ossining Public Library and the Ossining Public Schools.
JCY-Westchester Community Partners is a not-for-profit organization that develops Intergenerational Programs to meet the literacy needs of the children in
Westchester County by improving the reading and writing abilities of the students while providing meaningful and enriching volunteer opportunities.
