WESTCHESTER COUNTY YOUTH BUREAU RELEASES TWO REQUESTS FOR PROPOSALS FOR YOUTH TEAM SPORTS AND YOUTH SPORTS & EDUCATION PROGRAMS.

(White Plains, NY) – The Westchester County Youth Bureau is pleased to announce the release of the 2024-2025 Request for Proposals (RFP) – (1) Youth Team Sports Programs (YTS) and (2) Youth Sports & Education Programs (YSE).

Youth Team Sports - This funding supports the operations of team sports programs for youth under the age of 18 years old. The Bureau invites eligible not-for-profit and community-based organizations to apply for funding up to $50,000 to provide opportunities for team sports programs. In addition to providing a recreational outlet for Westchester’s youth, team sports increase physical and mental wellness, develop social and leadership skills, promote teamwork and break down societal barriers.

Youth Sports & Education - This funding supports youth development through general sports programs (non- competitive) for underserved youth six to 17 years old. Sports programs may encompass any organized activities with movement, including physical fitness activities such as yoga, hiking, dance, and active outdoor pursuits. The Bureau invites eligible local not-for-profits, municipalities, and/or local youth bureaus to apply for funding up to $25,000 for these essential programs. Detention facilities, residential runaway and homeless youth programs, and other congregate residential settings supporting disconnected youth are strongly encouraged to apply to offer opportunities to vulnerable youth in these settings.

The RFPs outline all criterion, noting that the application must demonstrate the coordination and implementation of team sports and/or sports and education activities as may be relevant. The two RFPs are available on the Westchester County Youth Bureau’s website: https://youth.westchestergov.com/youth-bureau

Westchester County Executive George Latimer said: “Youth sports programs, whether competitive or recreational are critical to keeping our kids engaged, healthy and off the streets. These are opportunities to develop athletic skills, make friends and learn important lessons that will serve them well throughout their lives. At best, they can lead you all the way to the Olympics like the four medal winners and other athletes from Westchester who made us so proud this year in Paris.”

Westchester County Youth Bureau Executive Director Ernest McFadden said: “With increasing rates of obesity and pre-diabetes among children and youth across the nation, we are actively working to encourage healthy lifestyles and physical well-being. Participating in team sports and active movement are not just about physical fitness; they are crucial for building character, fostering teamwork, and enhancing mental resilience. They teach us the value of perseverance, discipline, and the joy of striving toward a common goal.”
