New York Working Families Party Endorses Alessandra Biaggi for Congress.
NEW YORK, NY — The New York Working Families Party today announced its endorsement of Alessandra Biaggi for the Democratic Party primary in the redrawn NY-17 Congressional District.
Senator Biaggi faces DCCC Chair Sean Patrick Maloney in the Democratic primary. The New York Working Families Party had previously endorsed Sean Patrick Maloney in NY-18. However, Maloney’s entry into NY-17, pushing out his Congressional colleague, caused major shifts in several districts.
"I am extremely grateful to have earned the Working Families Party's endorsement in my race for Congress. The Working Families Party stood by me in 2018 when we took on a corporate, ‘Democrat’ who kept Republicans in control of the State Senate for decades. I was outspent 10 to 1 — but with the help of the Working Families Party, we won by ten points. Since then, we have worked in tandem to deliver for working New Yorkers, and I am ready to take our partnership to Washington,” said State Senator Alessandra Biaggi. “I am running for Congress to deliver on bold, popular policies for working families, and I am confident that with the support of the Working Families Party, we can win against another corporate Democrat who is standing in the way of progress. Together we will protect abortion rights, combat the climate crisis, lower prescription drug costs and pass Medicare for All, create more living wage jobs, and invest in our communites.”
“We’re proud to endorse Alessandra Biaggi in the 17th Congressional District. Since taking down the head of the Republican-aligned IDC, Alessandra has been a fierce fighter for working families and someone who is never afraid to stand up for what's right. As a State Senator, she championed affordable housing, reforming our broken ethics system, and justice for sexual assault survivors," said Sochie Nnaemeka, Director of the New York Working Families Party. “Alessandra would be a tremendous addition to New York’s Congressional delegation.”
