White Plains, NY — The Board of Legislators Budget and Appropriations Committee convened its first meeting of the 2022-2023 legislative session on Monday morning, and one of the committee's first acts was to create a Labor Subcommittee.
The subcommittee will be co-chaired by Leg. David Tubiolo (D- Yonkers, Mount Vernon) and Leg. Colin Smith (D-Cortlandt, Peekskill, Yorktown). The subcommittee's other members will be Chairwoman Catherine Borgia (D-Cortlandt, Croton on Hudson, Ossining, Briarcliff Manor, Peekskill), Leg. MaryJane Shimsky (D-Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Edgemont, Hartsdale, Hastings-on-Hudson, Irvington), Leg. Tyrae Woodson-Samuels (D-Mount Vernon), Leg. Jewel Williams Johnson (D-Elmsford, Greenburgh, Sleepy Hollow, Tarrytown) and Minority Whip James Nolan (R -Yonkers).
Budget and Appropriations Chair Vedat Gashi (D-New Castle, Somers, Yorktown) said, "The concerns of labor and of working people in Westchester County are always on the agenda at the Board of Legislators, but having a dedicated body like this subcommittee ensures that we will have a standing forum for dialog about matters of concerns to labor. I want to thank Legislators Tubiolo and Smith for agreeing to serve as co-chairs and I look forward to a hearing from the subcommittee's members about both broad, big picture concerns and specific legislative needs."
The Labor Subcommittee will begin meetings in the coming weeks.
